Barry Cooper, 41, was born in Lemoore, California and whose Father was a former military officer. Barry was raised in San Diego before his family moved to the East Texas countryside where he became old enough for his passion in training his family's hunting dogs. His love for animal life and behavior started at an early age.
Barry went to The University of Texas in Tyler, Texas and studied Speech and English before attending the Kilgore College East Texas Police Academy in 1990 at the ripe age of 21 years old. Following graduation, Barry became a dispatch police officer in the Gladewater Police Department in Texas for six months before becoming a police officer at the Big Sandy Police Department in Texas where he stayed for two years.
Barry initiated the first K-9 unit for the Big Sandy Police Department where he trained his own dog and proceeded to make more than 100 drug arrests over the course of two years. This achievement resulted in earning him the position of Lieutenant at 23 years old.
Barry's astounding number of drug arrests soon caught the attention of a drug task force licensed out of Governor Richard's office. Barry joined the Permian Basin Drug Task Force in West Texas, specializing in highway drug interdiction and K-9 unit operations as the youngest ever agent to be hired by the department. As a rookie in the department he made over 800 arrests. His own dog, named Toby, placed 12th in the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association competition in 1992.
Through his expertise in K-9 unit instruction, Barry soon began to teach K-9 training classes and drug interdiction classes throughout Texas. He was also a field-training officer for visiting K-9 teams. During Barry's tenure with the P.B.D.T.F., he worked joint operations with numerous law enforcement agencies including the DEA, U.S. Military, ATF and the FBI. While serving as a K-9 instructor, Barry also became skilled working undercover and open narcotics investigations.
In 1994, Barry was re-hired as the head of narcotics at the Gladewater Police Department in East Texas. During the two years employed, Barry established the record for the largest number of drug seizures and search warrants ran in the region.
Barry developed and ran a series of his own small businesses over the course of the following decade while raising a family of four children with his wife Candi, who he married in 2003. Haunted by his past involvement in what he considered to be a downward spiraling criminal justice system, Barry launched "Never Get Busted," in 2006 -- a project created to educate the masses on the unjustified War On Drugs and as a way of disseminating information regarding police misconduct and corruptions
Barry's work provides viewers with expertly staged demonstrations of K-9 drug searches, what to expect from a correct K-9 alert and how to spot a false alert. Also featured in Barry's work is advice on how to avoid narcotics profiling, a technique used by law enforcement personnel to increase the chances of making a drug arrest based on a predetermined set of visual indicators.
As a result of Barry's ongoing project work, he has received national and international media attention, with appearances on Geraldo at Large, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX Judge Napolitano. He is often called upon by the media for commentary on police training and narcotics cases. Barry's work was reported in every major newspaper around the world and he has been featured in various national magazines such as Maxim, Cannabis Culture and the Texas Observer. Barry is also featured in four episodes of Spike TV's, MANSWERS. Barry's work recently gained the attention of Hollywood giant, Bret Ratner, who is producing a feature film about Barry's life.
"Cooper is on a mission to free Americans and take down the abusive cops he once sought to emulate. In the terminology of war, Barry is an insurgent, lobbing bombs into the fourth estate as his form of penance for all the people he put behind bars for non-violent crimes."
