BarryCamTM Training Program and Useful Tips
During the police academy, I learned humans revert to their training under stressful situations. Just as police train with their guns, tasers and radar detectors, you must also train with the BarryCams to ensure you capture the critical footage during your stressful situation.
It's vital for you to master the following training exercises and when you do, I promise you will be able to arm and film your next encounter regardless of the situation. It only takes about 30 minutes per day for
three straight days to master the BarryCam.
Key camera buttons
The following excercises refer to buttons on the BarryCam key camera as follows:
- Button 1 shows an "Unlock" symbol
- Button 2 shows a "Car Trunk" symbol
- Button 3 shows a "Lock" symbol
The purpose of these symbols is to disguise the BarryCam as a car key. These symbols do not indicate the functions of the buttons.
Training Exercise 1--Arm the BarryCam
Take the BarryCam directly out of the box and insert the provided mini SD card.
Repeat the following phrase and commit it to memory. Repeat this phrase in your mind each time you arm the BarryCam:
"Feel the Steel, Press and Hold 1, Press and Hold 2"
To "Feel the Steel" grab the BarryCam and place your thumb on the "steel"
silver button that operates the spring-loaded key. This step ensures the activation buttons are on the top and easy to access.
To "Press and Hold 1" means to depress and hold button 1 with your thumb until you see a red and blue LED followed by a continuous red LED. The camera's power is now on and is waiting for you to tell it what to do.
To "Press and Hold 2" means to depress and hold button 2 with your thumb until you see the red LED blinking. Once the LED begins blinking, the camera is recording. The LED will only blink 6 times then turn off.
To stop recording, press Button 1 briefly. The Status Indicator LED will light red, indicating that the BarryCam has returned to standby mode.
Do this over and over until you can easily arm the camera. Practice with your eyes closed. If you practice this, you will instinctively revert to your training during a real encounter. You will actually find yourself repeating the phrase as you easily arm the BarryCam.
Training Exercise 2--Walking Ten Step While Arming The BarryCam
Practice retreiving and arming your BarryCam in less than 10 steps. With the BarryCam in your pocket, begin walking, retrieve the camera from your pocket and complete Training Excercise 1 before completing 10 walking steps. This will ensure you are able to arm the BarryCam while walking to or from a tense situation.
Training Exercise 3--Surprise Drilling With The BarryCam
Tell a family member or friend to test your skills a few times a day. Allow them to shout "BarryCam" which is your signal to arm the camera. Practice until you can arm the BarryCam within 10 seconds. In any real situation, yell "BarryCam" in you head and you will instinctively begin arming the camera.
